VRMapper Hardware Tools

VRMapper has developed some initial photo survey hardware tools that include the VRMapper laser ranger platform to provide accurate measurements & scale, adaptors to mount camera's to various types of telescoping poles, GPS/Compass platform with a bulls-eye bubble to ensure the telescoping poles are truly vertical, indoor and outdoor photo survey targets and a basic panorama camera mount - they are very practical and easy to use.  These tools will make it easy for you to capture birds-eye aerial images outside, make direct critical scene measurements and allow you to capture distance, coordinate and direction measurements to create and resolve positions for a photo survey network from which you will be able to map visible objects.  I hope these tools will inspire you to use panorama's to map scenes for your specific application interest.

SP1  Camera Mount Adaptor - Standard Pole

Easy to use thread-on adaptor to mount a camera or panorama camera mount to the top of a standard painting or janitor pole.   Works great to easily capture elevated birds-eye view photos or panorama’s.  Adaptor is made of 2 inch diameter ultra high molecular weight (UMHW).  Bottom end has a standard 3/4 inch 5TPI thread that screws directly onto the pole.  The top end has a standard ¼ inch NC 20 thread to mount the camera or camera mount.

PL1  Pole level with GPS/Compass Mount

Quick release plexiglass mount with circular bulls-eye level to keep pole truly vertical.  Comes with a small conventional liquid filled magnetic compass to derive photograph directions and sufficient sidelap for taking panorama’s.  Has a detachable mount for your own  GPS/Compass device.  The assembly has a quick release rubber strap mount.

MCT1  Multidirectional Cone Target

The cone target is designed for outdoor photo survey networks.  The six inch orange cone is highly visible and stable in a heavy traffic environment.  The target assembly simply friction fits on top of the cone.  The target plates are made of 1/8 inch thick polyethelene and are highly visible in direct sun or backlighting conditions.  The targets are visible from multiple directions enabling users to measure distances with the VRMapper laser ranging platform from various directions.  The target plates ( 4 to 9 inch square) are detachable and friction fit togeher to allow for quick deployment and take-down.

MPT1  Multidirectional Pole Target

The pole target is designed for indoor or outdoor photo survey networks.  The pole target has a solid steel base with a ball mount that 3/8 inch diameter aluminum sectional pole is vertically mounted.  The pole has a circular bulls-eye level.  The user can quickly set the pole target and use the bulls-eye- level to lock the ball joint in a vertical position.  The target assembly friction fits together and is simply placed on top of the pole.  The target plates are made of 1/8 inch thick polyethelene and are highly visible in direct sun or backlighting conditions.  The targets are visible from multiple directions enabling users to measure distances with the VRMapper laser ranging platform from various directions.    The vertical pole target has three 18 inch long sections that simply thread together for  quick deployment and take-down.

PCM1  Panorama Camera Mount

The basic universal camera mount is made of 12 millimetre thick bronze acryllic.  The platform is designed to accept many camera/lens combinations in landscape mode.  The panorama camera mount is a quick set-up/take-down system that is intended  as a basic mount for an average user – it is not intended as a high end versatile mount.  The most popular panorama camera mount seems to be the Nodal Ninja II.  You can easily create your own panorama camera mount and here is the PanoTools wiki list of   commercial camera mounts.

LRM1  Laser Ranger Platform

The laser ranger mount is made of 12 millimetre thick bronze acryllic and includes a red dot sight to point at targets and a digital inclinometer that measures vertical angles to 0.1 degrees. The platform is mounted on 1 3/4 inch aluminum rod which mounts to the camera tripod via standard 1/4thread.  It is very easy to set-up over a point using the telescoping plumd rod which has a universal mount for many tripods (includes all tripods having a 1 1/8 inch diameter centre shaft or less).  It is very quick to set-up and take-down.  It very fast to measure vertical angles and distances. A measuring system validation indicates the laser ranger platform will determine horizontal distances accurate on average to one centimetre
